Derby Advance In The Carling Cup, Tribunal Decision

Derby County advanced to the third round of the Carling Cup by virtue of beating Preston at Deepdale 1-0. The solitary goal came from a Paul Green header on 40 minutes. Derby played well in this tie, being on top for much of the match and finally making that count with a goal. It will also give the players confidence in they beat a fellow CCC side as well.Derby's opponent will be drawn on Saturday 30 August on Sky Sports with the rest of the Third Round draw for the CC.On Saturday Derby go to win less Barnsley hoping to get thier first win of the season and get a huge monkey off thier back if they secure a win.

The Football League Tribunal came to a decision on what monetary compensation Tranmere Rovers would be due from Derby County when they signed 20 year old Steve Davies. If a player is under 24 years of age and signs on a free, the club they belonged to is due compensation if the two clubs can not come to an agreement. Derby will pay Tranmere275,000 up front, then another 250,000 based on appearances, 200,000 if Derby achieve promotion to the EPL with in three years and a 15% sell on clause as well. In total, Tranmere can make 750,000 if all clauses get activated. Derby Chairman Adam Pearson said that the ruling was a just ruling and Derby County had no problem with the decision and is glad that this has been sorted and is now finished.

Paul Jewell was given the dreaded vote of confidence by Chairman Adam Pearson today. Normally when this happens it is only a matter of three or less matches until the manager is sacked. There have been rumors circulating that if Derby does not beat Barnsley this weekend, PJ will be sacked. Jewell is win less in EPL and CCC league play since he took charge of Derby in November of 2007. He signed 12 new players this off season yet the only wins for Derby have come in Carling Cup action. In the Coca-Cola Championship Derby currently sit in 20th position with only 1 point from a possible 9 points to start with. Whether the rumors are true, or the board are going to stick by PJ has yet to be seen but when the "vote of confidence" is issued for a manager, that is usually the beginning of the end for him.
